1. Why do you want to work in care?

2. What do you understand about person-centred care?
Person-centred care means respecting each individual’s needs, values, preferences, and choices — treating them with dignity and encouraging independence wherever possible.
3. How would you handle a patient who is refusing support?
I would remain calm, listen respectfully, try to understand their concerns, and offer alternative solutions. If needed, I would report the issue to my supervisor.
4. What would you do if you noticed signs of abuse or neglect?
I would follow safeguarding procedures: record what I’ve seen or heard accurately and report it to the safeguarding lead or manager immediately and confidentially.
5. What does confidentiality mean to you?
It means protecting the private information of service users and only sharing it with appropriate people when necessary for their care and safety.
6. How would you support someone with mobility issues?
I’d make sure their environment is safe, use the correct moving and handling equipment, and support them with patience and respect for their independence.
7. Tell me about a time you provided emotional support to someone. (STAR Method Example)
Situation:
A resident at a care home became upset after receiving bad news from family.
Task:
I needed to comfort them and help them feel heard and safe.
Action:
I sat with them, listened without interrupting, and offered reassurance. I also asked the senior if we could arrange extra support for the resident that day.

Situation:
During a busy morning shift, we were short-staffed and several residents needed urgent attention.

I stay calm, avoid confrontation, speak respectfully, and try to understand the root of the issue. I follow care plans and report serious concerns immediately.

I remind myself of the importance of the care I provide. I take short breaks when possible and focus on staying calm, compassionate, and consistent for the people I support.
